Black Women United For Action
Situation
Summary background of the organization
BWUFA runs several community-based programs, all focused on volunteers improving the lives of low-income families through whatever means possible. In addition to their Chantilly Mews project, the group assists several African initiatives from across the Atlantic.
Obstacles
The communication challenges faced
With multiple programs, initiatives, and staffing needs, BWUFA must strike a balance between program efforts and the increasing demands of organizational management, effective leadership, and growth, all amidst an upcoming restructuring.
Solution
The steps and solution taken by the CreateAThon team
Working alongside their volunteer communications consultant, BWUFA was able to generate many ideas for consistent communications outreach, recruitment for programs and national growth goals. Topics addressed included finding a dedicated volunteer to lead the International program, establishing a revenue stream through a small community fulfillment house, and establishing a formal guidebook for transplanting the success of Chantilly Mews to other communities around the country.
